The paintings of Simeon Walker have recently focused on singular aspects of the landscape. His personal concerns for the unique environment of this country combine with his ongoing fascination with the landscape's effects on the human psyche. The focus of his current work is on richly detailed tree and rock studies. In isolating aspects of the landscape from their traditional context, the artist elevates the subject and invites the viewer to be closer to its beauty. His work has become increasingly concerned with the drama of microcosmic detail and themes of opposing forces: urban and rural, known and unknown, life and death.

In 2005 the artist's painting Profusion was a finalist in the high profile Metro 5 Gallery Art Award, Australia's richest art prize for young artists. Profusion was a close runner up, receiving a Highly Commended in the People's Choice category. In the same year the Macquarie Bank Art Collection purchased work from the artist to be included in a series for their New York office, including works by prominent Australian artists Philip Wolfhagen and Tim Maguire. This exposure has led to a series of privately commissioned paintings for senior executives at the Macquarie Bank, National Australia Bank, Oxiana and The Boston Consulting Group. The artist's canvas Between Heaven and Earth was selected as a finalist in the 2006 Metro 5 Gallery Art Award. In May 2008 the Macquarie Group Art Collection purchased a painting Trespass for their Melbourne Offices. His work is held in private collections in England, America, New Zealand and throughout Australia.

In July 2007 his exhibition Light, Colour and Form earned him a sell out result. With his contribution to the Flinders Lane Gallery group show Treasures (2007 and 2008) and The View From Here (2008 and 2009) a new and exciting collaboration has begun.

Simeon works from his studio in Geelong, Victoria. Flinders Lane Gallery will host his next solo exhibition in September 2009.
